Story Telling: Rapunzel
Introduction: this assignment is for the Bilingual Festival in our Wuxi campus this semester. I signed up for story telling, so I chose a fairy tale named Rapunzel.
Reflection: I think the hardest part of this assignment is to make the story both interesting to tell and easy to memorize. However, I think I did well on that. If I need to do it again, I will use my imagination to change some parts of the story to make it more dramatic.By doing this assignment, I learned that the best way to memorize a story is to turn it into many pictures. Then, when I need to tell the story, I just need to remember the picture, and tell the story according to the pictures.

Once upon a time, there was a man and a woman who had long wished for a child.
They had a little window at the back of their house, and a splendid garden could be seen. The garden was full of the most beautiful flowers and herbs. It was, however, surrounded by a high wall, and no one dared to go into it because it belonged to an evil witch.
One day, the woman was standing by the window and looking down into the garden. There, she saw the most beautiful rampion. Suddenly, she had a great desire to eat some. The desire increased every day, and the woman became pale and miserable. Then, her husband was alarmed, and asked: “what’s the matter, my dear?” “If I can’t eat some of the rampion, I shall die,” replied the woman.
The man, who loved his wife, decided to get the rampion for the woman. At twilight, he climbed down over the wall in to the garden, and cut a handful of rampion.
When he was about to leave the garden, he was terribly afraid, for he saw the evil witch standing in front of him. “How dare you!” said the witch with angry look, “climbed into my garden and steal rampion like a thief! You shall suffer for it!” “Let mercy take the place of justice,” answered the man, “my wife will die if she couldn’t eat the rampion.” The witch allowed her anger to be softened, and said: “All right then, I allow you to take as much as you want. However, you must give me your child as soon as it born. And I will take care of it like a mother.” The frightened man agreed at once, and left.
As the witch has said, when the little girl was born, she took her away at once, and gave her the name Rapunzel. Rapunzel was raised in a secret tower in the forest by the evil witch. The tower had neither stairs nor door, but a little window. When the witch wanted to go in, she cried: “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let down your hair!” Rapunzel had magnificent long hair, and when she heard the voice, she would wound them around the hook of the window above, and then the hair fell down from the tower. The evil witch climbed up by it.
Years later, the prince rode through the forest and passed by the tower. He heard a charming song coming from the tower. It was Rapunzel, of course. The prince wanted to climb up to her, but he found no door. Then, he saw the evil witch cried: “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let down your hair!” and then the witch climbed up to her.
The prince was inspired. On the next day, he went to the tower and cried: “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let down your hair!” immediately the hair fell down, and the prince climbed up. At first, Rapunzel was scared with a man standing in her room. But she found out soon that he was quite like a friend. These two people soon fell in love with each other.
Rapunzel kept the secret well, until one day she said: “Tell me mother, how it happens that you are heavier form me to draw up than the young prince?” The evil witch immediately got angry, and cried: “You bad child! I had separated you from the world, and yet you have lied to me!” Then she cute Rapunzel’s beautiful long hair with a knife.
Later that day, the prince came and cried: “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let down your hair!” The hair fell down, and the prince climbed up. But, instead of finding his dearest Rapunzel, he found the evil witch. “Aha,” laughed the evil witch, “Your Rapunzel is no longer yours, and you will never see her again.” At once, the evil witch stabbed a thorn into his eye. The prince leaped down from the tower, and escaped with his life. However, he was blinded by the thorn.
Many years had passed by. When the prince was wondering in the woods, he heard a familiar voice. He went towards it, and there, he met Rapunzel. Rapunzel hugged him, and wept. Two of her tears wetted his eyes, and they grew clear again, and he could see with them as before! The prince took her to the kingdom, and they lived happily for a long time afterwards.
