Homework Essay
Introduction: I did this assignment at the second semester of grade 10. This assignment is an essay. I need to make an argument, and then find evidence and examples to support it.
Reflection: I think the hardest part of this writing assignment is to search online to find evidence and examples. If I have to write this essay again, I would try to find more accurate evidence and examples online. I think I did well on making the essay flows logically.By doing this assignment, I learned the basic structure of essay, and how to write the MLA Citation.

Prompt - should schools ban homework for students?
In our SUIS U.S. High School, students have tons of homework that keeps them stay up late at night. Although homework is torturing students all over China, I think schools should not ban homework for students. Students can get better grades, and learn to manage their time well by doing homework. Also, homework reflects the knowledge students have learned in class, so it will help the teachers to improve their teaching.
First, students can get better grades by doing homework. Homework questions area based on the knowledge students have learned in class, so by doing it, students can review what they have learned in class. Revision is a very important process while studying, since students can have stronger memories of the knowledge. Also, students will find out what they still don’t understand about the knowledge when they are doing homework. Then, they can ask the teachers about their questions the next day. After students have reviewed their lessons, and have the answers to questions they don’t understand, they will certainly get a better grade at school. Robert Tai, associate professor of science education at the university’s curry school of education, said: “students that were spending about a half an hour on math homework were reporting that their grades and test score were actually better.” (Watson) For example, I did all my homework that teachers assigned, and asked about the questions I didn't understand, I got an A for my grade.
Second, homework helps teachers improve their teaching. Homework reflects what students have learned in class and how much knowledge they get. By looking at student’s homework, teachers are able to tell what the students are good at, and what the students are poor at. For example, in math homework, if students got all the addition correct, but there are many mistakes in the subtraction questions, the teacher will know that the students are good at additions, but still need to work more on subtractions. In my life, most teachers use student’s homework to improve their lessons for the next day in order to make the lesson more efficient.
Last, students can learn to be responsible and manage their time well by doing homework. Most of the time, students will have homework from several subjects that they need to finish at one night. Then, they must give a certain amount of time for each subject’s homework so that they can finish them all. “When students assume responsibility for their homework and complete an assignment, it is only then that they learn to be accountable for their actions” said Glenda Faye Pryor-Johnson, a retired Memphis City Schools counselor. (Pryor-Johnson) Also, there are deadlines that limits the time for turning in homework. This requires students manage their time well. “For younger students, having more meaningful homework assignments can help builds time-management skills, as well as enhance parent-child interaction,” said Ashley Norris, assistant dean of the university's college of education. (Bidwell)
Although homework takes away our free time, we are benefited by doing homework in many ways. Doing homework not only improves our grades and time management, but also helps teachers improve their teaching. Therefore, I disagree that schools should ban homework for students.
